Rubikus Jewellery Guide

In 2008 Rui started a jewellery guide (in Japanese) for contemporary jewellery related events and exhibitions of Australian and Japanese artists. Jueguide is done completely voluntarily and publicity for events is free of charge. If you like you event to be posted on the the Jueguide please email Rui or if you like the guide, please make a comment on any of the events to encourage Rui to keep going.

Biography

Rui Kikuchi was born in Kyoto in 1982. She moved to Sydney with her family in 1988 and spent her formative years in Australia.

In 2003 she graduated from the University of Sydney’s Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in Object Art and Design. After completing her degree Rui returned to Japan and attended the Itami College of Jewellery in Hyogo Prefecture in 2007.

Since 2007 she has exhibited widely in Australia and Japan and her work has been presented in exhibitions in Europe. She has been accepted into several prestigious competitions including the Friedrich Becker Prize, the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize and the Itami International Craft Exhibition. In the 2009 Itami International Craft Exhibition she was awarded the Good Material Award.

Rui complements her studio practice with exhibition curation. She curated ‘(Im)Permanent Resident’ which toured Sydney and Tokyo in 2006 and ‘Chromagoria’ as part of the 2008 Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia’s biennial conference in Adelaide.

She has given a guest lecture at Kookmin University in Seoul, The Itami College of Jewellery and Osaka Fashion Design College. She has exhibited her work alongisde Australian jewellery masters and their students in ‘By Example’ at the Itami Museum of Arts and Crafts, Japan in March 2010.

Her works have been published most recently in the ‘Compendium of Contemporary Jewellery Makers’, by Darling Publications in Cologne, 2009, ‘Workbench Guide to Jewellery Techniques’, by Thames and Hudson, London, 2010 and ‘500 Gemstone Jewels’, by Lark Books, New York, 2010.

She resides and works in Osaka, Japan.

Rubikus Jueguide

2008年に日本人、オーストラリア人作家に関するイベントと展覧会情報サイトを立ち上げました。 ジュエガイドは両国のコンテンポラリージュエリーを広告し、関心を高める目的で作りました。 投稿は無料で行っており、情報の提供を受け付けております。いつでもメールをお送りください。ジュエガイドはお役に立っていましたら継続する励ましのてめに投稿に応援のメッセージ、展覧会の感想などを頂けばとても幸いです。

作家プロフィール:菊地ルイ

ジュエリー作家。1982年、京都生まれ。

1988年にシドニーへ渡る。シドニー大学視覚芸術学士を取得し、帰国。伊丹ジュエリーカレッジ終了後、日本、オーストラリア各地で作家活動を加速させ、展覧会のキューレーターを務め、ジュエリー技法書籍や専門書に作品の記載、特別講義の実施など、国際的に活躍。

2010年、ギャラリー佑英にて個展を行う。 主なグループ展は、「By Example: Australian Contemporary Jewellery」伊丹市立工芸センター、「Moved」(移民歴史博物館—南豪州)、「フリードリッヒ•ベッカー賞」(ゴールドシュミードハウス−ドイツ)、「Signs of Change – Jewellery to Make a Better World」(フォームギャラリー、−西豪州)、「伊丹国際クラフト展」、「ウォーターハウス賞」(南オーストラリア州立博物館)。

2009年伊丹国際クラフト展でグッドマテリアル賞受賞。

現在大阪在住。
